There are several ways to blur your background on zoom in Adobe Photoshop. One of which is by using the Gaussian Blur filter. However, when you apply the blur the background color gets changed to a gray or brownish color. In this tutorial you will learn how to select the background color and then change it to any color you want.
The first thing I’m going to say is that I love my DSLR. I love the fact that I can change lenses and I can control the shutter speed and the aperture. I love the fact that I can capture a photo and I can always go in and edit it. But there’s a problem. There’s just so much about it that I don’t like – the size and weight; the fact that it can be difficult to carry around; having to carry around a bag full of lenses and other assorted bits and pieces.
Blurring your background on Zoom is known to be the easiest way to make the video call more interesting. There is a lot of ways to do this, but the new Zoom lets you do that with a single tap on your screen. It is not the only way, but when you are in a hurry, an easy way to do it is preferred.
Zoom allows you to change the background of the video call to any image. The ability to use virtual backgrounds not only gives you a new way to present yourself at a conference, but also gives those around you a sense of intimacy. Remote collaboration tools now offer not only the ability to change the background image, but also to blur it. But can I use the background blur on the zoom? That is the subject of this article.
Does the zoom make the background blurred?
Yes, it is. Although Zoom was the first video conferencing platform to allow users to change backgrounds, it was not possible to add a blur effect to existing backgrounds until February 2021. Microsoft Teams and Skype already have the ability to blur the background of your video stream, and Google plans to do the same with its Meet service in the near future.
Using the blur effect when zooming in on a PC
In recent updates to its Windows and Mac desktop applications, Zoom has added the ability to blur the current background directly from within the application, eliminating the need for any other option.
Zoom Desktop ClientUpdate
Make sure the Zoom desktop client on your Windows or Mac computer is up to date before proceeding. To do this, launch the Zoom desktop client on your Windows or Mac computer and select your profile picture in the top right corner. Now choose Check for Updates from the drop-down menu. If you have not updated your Zoom desktop client in a while, you will be notified immediately when a new update is available. If the update is available, click the Update button and then click Install after downloading the update. Wait until you have finished installing the update and you can be sure that the new Zoom Blur feature is active. After installing the update, you will receive a message saying You have been updated.
Enable blurring during scale-up
You can apply a fading effect to the zoom background after refreshing the desktop client. To do this, go to the top right corner of the Zoom window and click on the cog icon. This will load the zoom settings window on your computer. Click on the Backgrounds and Filters tab in the left sidebar. Now click on the Blur option in the Virtual Backgrounds tab of the right-hand pane. This should create a blurry effect for your surroundings, and only your face will be exposed in the camera’s field of view. From now on, the blur effect will be turned on by default for all meetings you host and attend, unless you change it in the zoom settings.
Can I use the blur effect in the Zoom application on iOS or Android?
Yes, but it’s not available yet. The zoom-blur effect will appear in the mobile apps for iOS and Android as part of an upcoming update scheduled for May 24. 2021 will be released. At the time of writing this article, we were not yet able to test this feature on Android and iOS. If the blur effect is added to the Zoom application via an official update, we’ll be sure to update this section.
The blur effect does not work when zooming? Therefore
There’s a reason you can’t use the blur effect in the Zoom client (Windows or Mac) or the Zoom app (iOS or Android). Since blurring video backgrounds requires additional CPU power for Zoom, make sure your desktop or phone meets the requirements for a virtual background and blur. For a full list of system requirements, visit this Zoom support page. In other words, using blurred backgrounds in Zoom requires separate processors for macOS and Windows. Go to the Backgrounds and Filters page (follow the tips above) and under Virtual Backgrounds, uncheck the I have a green screen box – this is a quick way to determine if your computer can use the blur effect. If the zoom background presets immediately disappear when you uncheck them, it means that your camera does not support background blur with zoom. We tested this on an early 2015 MacBook Air that did not display the Blur option, and unchecking the I have a green screen option removed the setting. Unfortunately, there’s no way around this unless you upgrade your hardware or switch to another collaboration app that supports background blur on low-powered hardware, like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.
